- Pelargonium comes from the Greek word “pelargos” which means stork (Kind of birds). Graveolens refers to the strong-smelling flowers. They belong to the botanical family geraniaceae. There are over 200 different varieties of Pelargonium plants, but only a few are used as essential oils.
